New Cruise Ship Coming to Hamilton, Bermuda in 2015

21 June 2014, Comments: 4

The Holland America Line will cruise to Bermuda regularly starting in the summer of 2015. Their ship, the ms Veendam will have six available 7-night cruises from Boston to Bermuda in May, June, and July 2015. Unlike many cruises that only have day trips at each destination they visit, Bermuda is lucky enough to host the ms Veendam for 3 days and nights on the island for guests to enjoy and explore our beautiful island.

“We know our guests will be excited to see us cruise again to Bermuda in 2015,” said Richard Meadows, Holland America Line’s executive vice president of sales, marketing and guest relations. “By extending the call to three nights, guests can have extensive time to experience the island while still enjoying the award-wining service and amenities that Holland America Line is known for.”

You can also choose to stay on the ship for another 7 days after it reaches back to Boston. Leaving Boston, the ms Veendam will then cruise to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia; Bar Harbor, Maine, along with a scenic cruise through the Gulf of St. Lawrence, before heading back to Boston.

About Hamilton

Hamilton is the capital of Bermuda and situated in the center of the island. It has many shops and restaurants as well as ferries, buses, and taxis to take you to other areas of Bermuda. The cruise ship will be docked on Front Street which is the main street in the small colonial city. Walk left off of the cruise ship and you will head towards the bird-cage which a police officer stands in during the morning commute into the city, guiding traffic along smoothly.

From Hamilton, guests will be able to catch a ferry to Dockyard on one day and St. Georges on another, and still have time to fit in a relaxing beach day on our island’s fine pink and white sand.

About the ms Veendam

The ms Veendam has a capacity of 1,350 guests and has been in service since 1996. The cruise underwent a major upgrade in 2009 and was back in service in 2011. New balcony cabins and Lanai cabins situated on the Promenade Deck were installed, along with a restyled pool at the rear of the ship.

The ship also has a $2,000,000 art and antique collection on board and was designed for cruisers seeking space and comfort.

Prices

The 7-night cruises begin at $799 per person (not including taxes, port fees, or gratuities), while the extended cruise starts at $1,499 per person (not including taxes, port fees, or gratuities).

I will be taking a cruise in May to Bermuda to do genealogical research on my family line. Also would like to go to the Historical area of Bermuda to see the gravesites of the original pioneers that lived on the Island in the 1700-1800 or more. I understand that there is an Archives at Hamilton. Is there anything that I need to know and be prepared for when I take the cruise in May of 2015?

Hi Martha, it seems like you understand a lot about what to do when you get here. Since you will be on a cruise, I would recommend renting a scooter to make sure you can move around the island at a faster pace. If a scooter is not an option, I would start your day early is all and plan ahead of time. The best thing to do would be to contact a few places on this list of Bermuda museums and find out what exhibits they will have planned at that time or even better, if they can help you learn more about your family history.

What I can also do is introduce you to one of our tour guides to best guide you about the things you want to learn.
