John Smith’s Bay
2.1 miles/ 3.4 kilometers | Pale pink sand, interesting rock formations, and clear, tranquil water awaits you at this quiet beach. The beautiful reefs just off the beach offer great snorkeling and the lunch cart that sell snacks and drinks during the summer offers a break from the hot sun. A lifeguard is on duty during the summer.
Bailey’s Bay
3.6 miles/ 5.8 kilometers | Easily accessible from town, this small beach offers privacy and relaxation without a long jaunt. The shallow water is clear and optimal for swimming.
Cooper’s Island Nature Preserve
8.4 miles/ 13.5 kilometers | This unspoiled paradise is a relaxing 12-acre destination with trails, beaches, and spectacular views. Look for killifish, sea birds and crabs at the salt Marsh and spot whales (March to April) and migratory birds at the Wildlife Observation Tower. There are a few beaches here in the Nature Preserve, and you can snorkel off any of them to see some of the island’s best snorkeling off a beach.
Shelly Bay Beach
4.4 miles/ 7.1 kilometers | Shelly Bay Beach is the perfect spot for kids to learn how to swim and snorkel thanks to the abundant shady trees and water that stays shallow, even during high tide. It’s an easy 15-minute ride from Hamilton by scooter or taxi. There is also a playground for children to play on just behind the beach.

Tom Moore’s Jungle
2.5 miles/4 km – Also known as Blue Hole Park, Tom Moore’s Jungle is a 12-acre reserve that offers the best of wild Bermudian habitats. It’s named after the Irish poet who loved to write in the area. Stroll the forest trails to spot mangrove trees, several species of birds, and swimming grottos, including the Blue Hole. The park also includes interesting underground caves.
Blue Hole Park
2.5 miles/4 km – Also known as Tom Moore’s Jungle and Walsingham Nature Preserve, this popular park spreads over 12 acres. Explore trails and paths to see a variety of natural attractions, including caves with stalactites, natural pools, and the clear blue mangrove pond that the park is named for.
Spittal Pond Nature Reserve
3 miles/4.8 km – Covering 64 acres, Spittal Pond Nature Reserve is Bermuda’s largest and most premium nature reserve and national park. The 8-acre Spittal Pond sits in the center, surrounded by marsh and woodland. Follow the winding trail through all sorts of wildflowers and trees (including olivewoods, spice trees and Mexican pepper trees) to take in vast views over the South Shore.
Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo
3.2 miles/5.2 km – The animal habitat exhibits at this seven-acre Flatts Village destination focus on oceanic island species, including more than 200 species of fish and marine invertebrates and over 300 birds, reptiles and mammals. It is popular with both kids and adults.
Verdmont
3.9 miles/6.2 km – This fascinating old house features a rare combination of traditional 17th-century dwelling style and 18th-century Georgian mansion design. It has remained nearly unchanged structurally for nearly 300 years and features an impressive antique collection that ranges from Bermudian cedar furniture, English and Chinese porcelain, and a period-style nursery. An attic display explores the home’s architecture and the lives of the people who lived there.
Admiralty House Park
5.4 miles/8.7 km – See Bermuda through the eyes of artists as diverse as Georgia O’Keeffe, Winslow Homer and Albert Gleizes at this museum, which was created to foster an understanding of Bermudian history and culture and enrich the community with art education. Paintings range from lush landscapes to the Bermudian people and the island’s cultural heritage. Collections celebrate Bermuda’s intrinsic beauty through creations by Bermudian and international artists.
Carter House
5.4 miles/8.7 km – Carter House is one of the oldest homes in Bermuda. Somers Garden
6.2 miles/10 km – This calm green park is free and open daily. A relaxing place to take a break, Somers Garden is named after Sir George Somers, the colonial founder of Bermuda. A modest tomb pays tribute to him. A large fountain and a moongate (an architectural feature considered to be good luck for newlyweds who walk through it) are also featured on the grounds.
Unfinished Church
6.2 miles/10 km – This elegant St. George’s Town structure is an important landmark. Construction started in 1874 and the church was intended to replace St. Peter’s Church after a storm damaged that church beyond repair, but it was never finished due to funding problems and a split within the church. A hurricane destroyed the nascent Gothic structure in 1926, leaving behind ruins that are now a protected historic monument, which also serves as a popular wedding location.
Burnt Point Fort
6.3 miles/10.2 km – Built by the British in 1688, this fort once defended against enemy ships and allowed supervision of illegal sea trading. Face Smith’s Parish from the ruins to spot the former support structure for Bermuda Railways.

Fort St. Catherine and Museum
